Autumn Morning in Bath

In Royal Victoria Park the leaves on the trees are changing colour and after last night's frost they are also falling..

Amongst the carpet of leaves, some rather large patches of fungi..

Some rather wintry views - the summer planting is gone..

Royal Crescent looking a little forbidding against a dull sky..

Along the road the trees at The Circus are also changing..

After rather a dull morning the sun did come out - I will save those pictures for another day.

Parish Church

At the heart of the village where we looked at the scarecrows last weekend is the very pretty parish church (and on Sunday it was also the location for 'scarecrow teas').

A banner along the gallery indicates that the church was refurbished in 1768 and dates to a much earlier time.

The steps to the gallery and tower show a little wear.

This beautiful fish carving was originally on the tower.

The hassocks are all beautifully hand made.

There had been a recent wedding and so there were beautiful and unusual flower arrangements.

Thursday 3rd November - A Rose in Winter

This beautiful rose is still in flower in my sister's garden, despite the cooler temperatures.

Autumn Leaves

As the sun came up this morning through a veil of cloud, it illuminated the leaves of Mum's spreading cherry tree.

On the other side of the garden the many varied colours of the 'Liquid Amber' tree - an Acer? or a Sweet Gum?

Meanwhile, David's travels today have taken him to Richmond, Virginia,  where the colours are also changing..

Over the Stream

Today marks the third anniversary of this blog - started 1st November 2013 when I left to join David in the US.  That means I have written more than 1,000 daily posts.

Thanks to those of you who have followed our little adventures regularly.

In the village where we followed the Scarecrow trail on Sunday there is a rather photogenic stream running alongside the road.

There is a very pretty little bridge and I managed to persuade my elder niece to pose for a photo there..

Stourhead

I wish that I could claim credit for these beautiful photographs, but these were taken by my brother, Andrew, when he and Jan made a visit to Stourhead today.

It is a long time since I have visited this beautiful garden and I am not sure that I have ever seen it in conditions as perfect as these...

Characters from Children's Books

Today, after a lovely lunch, Maggie took us around the village to look at some of the scarecrows in this year's competition.

The theme was 'Characters from Children's Books'.  You will recognise many of these..

Even the parish church was participating..

...but in terms of actually scaring the crows, the plane flying overhead was more effective than the scarecrow plane and pilot on the tower!!
